Becky was born in Meaford on May 2, 1983, the dear daughter of Peggy (nee Weatherall) and Denver Holden.
She’ll be missed by her brother Jeremy, his wife Beth, and their kids Finn and Cooper, as well as her brother Robin, his wife Amy, and their children Briden and Harlan.
Many aunts, uncles, and cousins will remember Becky warmly. Her faithful travel buddy Mawkoose will surely miss all the adventures they had together.
Becky’s first trip to Nestor Falls and Lake of the Woods happened when she was just two weeks old. That early visit must have stuck with her since after graduating from the University of Ottawa she chose to live year-round in that area.
She started figure skating at age two and kept at it through her teen years, later giving back as a coach and judge. As an adult, Becky got into outdoor stuff – you’d often spot her kayaking or paddleboarding or cross-country skiing on Kakagi Lake during winter. In summer she loved doing yoga right on the dock at their cabin on Lake of the Woods. She also took trips to BC to see friends or even traveled farther for things like yoga retreats in India.
Professionally, Becky worked as a Policy Analyst on the Indigenous Midwifery team at the Association of Ontario Midwives where she gave steady support to Indigenous midwives and communities. She also held roles with Grand Council Treaty 3 as a Health Policy Analyst; worked with Ojibway’s of Onigaming First Nation as Crisis Coordinator and Family Well Being Coordinator; plus taught post-secondary courses at Seven Generations Education Institute. Her efforts reached many people around Lake of the Woods.
Her Anishinaabe name was Miigwaans which means “Little Feather.” She received this name while working at Grand Council Treaty 3. Whenever she joined a ceremony or circle or meeting she would introduce herself using both her English name and Miigwaans. People won’t forget her anytime soon.
The family invites friends to visit them at Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford for public viewing on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 5 to 8 p. m. A private service for family will happen later on.
The family thanks staff at Riverside Health Care in Fort Frances, Brightshores Health, and Grey Bruce Hospice-Chapman House in Owen Sound for all their kindness during Becky’s stays there.
